Data Assurance Senior Associate

Our client, a leading professional services firm, is looking for an experienced Data Assurance Senior Associate to join their Risk Assurance team in Guernsey or Jersey. The team helps clients identify, measure, and manage their risk profile more effectively, with a focus on Financial Services across the Channel Islands.
The Role
You will work within an assurance team, providing data analytics and information risk management services to support external financial statement audit engagements. You will interact directly with clients and have opportunities to contribute to shaping the future direction of the practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Support external audit teams in the delivery of financial statement audit engagements as a Lead Senior
- Complete planning procedures and client walkthroughs relating to IT environments, systems, reports, and databases
- Design and develop data analytical procedures to support efficient and effective audit testing
- Use data analysis techniques to assess IT General Controls, application controls, key reports, and interfaces
- Document the use of data analytical procedures to appropriate audit standards
- Undertake project management activities to ensure engagements are delivered to agreed time and budget
- Help train and upskill junior staff in the latest tools and techniques
- Build strong relationships internally and externally with senior client management teams
Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience in internal or external audit and assurance engagements as a data assurance specialist
- Strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage your own and others' time
- Experience developing junior staff and working effectively in a team
- Excellent verbal communication and report-writing skills
- Ability to work autonomously and follow formal risk and quality methodologies
- Strong desire for continuous personal development
Technical Background
Candidates will typically come from one of the following backgrounds:
- Accounting path: Data assurance and accounting experience, including planning and delivering data-focused engagements and evaluating financial information systems
- Data Science path: Technical data science or engineering experience, with knowledge of IT infrastructure, database design, and data analytical techniques
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Accounting, Information Technology, or Business Studies
- Formal or part accounting qualification, or a Data Science/Data Engineering degree
- Technology Risk qualification (e.g. ITIL, COBIT, CRISC, ISO27001) is beneficial
Desirable
- Knowledge of the Financial Services sector and the Channel Islands market
- Competency in data and analytics tools: Alteryx, SQL, Python, Power BI, Power Platform
- Project management certification (e.g. PRINCE2 or Agile)
- Experience with AI tools in a professional context
- Cyber Security or Technology Risk engagement experience with a relevant qualification
