Data & Systems Analyst
Guernsey · Permanent
Our client, a well-established professional services organisation based in Guernsey, is looking for a bright, analytical problem solver to provide system and project support, working closely with the systems development team on analysis, design, and development.
You will investigate and resolve issues and build practical tools and solutions using Excel, SQL, and/or a statistical or programming language such as R or Python. Aptitude and analytical strength is a key requirement. Prior system experience is beneficial but our client would welcome a fast learner who can demonstrate they pick up new technical skills quickly. Evidence of good working practices — structured, well-documented, well-tested work — from any background is a genuine plus.
The role is office-based in Guernsey, with some flexibility for remote or hybrid working considered.
What You Would Be Doing
- Analysis and solutions: Analyse data and system issues to identify root causes and trends, numerically replicate system outcomes from first principles, and design and build practical tools using Excel, SQL, R, or Python
- System support and testing: Investigate and resolve reported issues working with users and technical teams, use SQL and reporting tools to interrogate databases, and support testing of system enhancements through to release
- Communication: Document findings and resolutions clearly and communicate progress and outcomes to stakeholders in plain, non-technical language
- Growth: Opportunity to grow into wider systems development and research & development work, or into leading systems support, depending on aptitude and interest
Skills & Experience
- Analytical ability: Strong analytical and quantitative reasoning, high numeracy and logic skills, and the ability to work through unfamiliar problems from first principles. Any evidence of building tools, models, or analysis to solve real problems — from professional, academic, or personal projects — is valued highly
- Fast learner: Comfortable picking up new tools and technical skills quickly; some exposure to Excel, SQL, R, or Python is useful but not essential
- Working practices: Evidence of structured, well-documented, well-tested work from any background — academic or professional — is valued
- Communication and ownership: Good communication skills, able to explain issues clearly to non-technical audiences, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality and accuracy
- Education: Strong academic record in a numerate, technical, or analytical discipline, or equivalent demonstrable ability. Outstanding graduates or early-career candidates will also be considered for a trainee-level entry into this role
